After volunteering at a public school in Cuzco, Peru, the presenters will share their learning experience dealing with cultural differences. Following the Modern Language Association (MLA) recommendation of planning curriculum that leads to language development and cultural proficiency, they explore themes such as: What meaningful preparation prepares students for cultural shock, class, racial, and ethnic difference? How do we learn about otherness and how can bringing those experiences back to our learning institutions to promote diversity in U.S. campuses and school settings make us more understanding individuals?
