This hands-on, interactive workshop will focus on short-term and long-term approaches to reviewing, creating, and delivering a world language curriculum that focuses on standards-based teaching and learning. Participants are encouraged to bring a curricular document and current resources for a course that they are teaching as a portion of the workshop will be devoted to examining the current curriculum.

We know what appeals more to students, yet we feed them grammar, with an occasional treat from “authentic culture.” What if we used the treat as entry into the language? In this workshop, participants will practice developing lessons around authentic input, be it reading, listening, or viewing. Through a hierarchy of tasks, students learn to discover and use the language in meaningful contexts. Then, it is no longer YouTube OR grammar, but YouTube WITH grammar, all wrapped up in authenticity and relevance!
