Blended Learning: Digital Tools in the Foreign Language Classroom

Which digital tools benefit the foreign language classroom? This session will showcase a variety of online tools and how they can be implemented into our teaching in innovative ways to help improve participation and communication, and positively impact our students' foreign language learning. The presenters will demonstrate how digital tools foster collaboration among students inside and outside the classroom and foster student engagement with the material in rich and meaningful contexts.

Getting Started with Technology in YOUR Class

Are you interested in using technology in your teaching but afraid to try? Does it seem to be an overwhelming task? This session is for you! You will practice using free computer programs that your students will enjoy. Quizlet is ideal for drilling vocabulary or verb conjugations. Other programs will allow your students to create fun presentations (such as Voki or Animoto). The presenter will provide handouts with step-by-step instructions and rubrics. Please bring a laptop.

This session will show you some of the ways to incorporate Edmodo, a student learning platform, into your foreign language classroom. You can give quizzes, assignments, keep track of grades, communicate with students as a group or individually, assign speaking tests, and more. Parents can also follow along more easily.
